Meet Pristine! She’s 13 years old and lives in India. She took us on a tour of her community, to see the difference that sponsorship has made through a range of projects.

Pristine attends a local high school, where she is in Grade 8. She wants to be a doctor when she grows up.

World Vision helped the school by building toilets and providing desks and benches for the classrooms. The teachers of the school have undergone teachers’ training including how to teach effectively and how to support struggling students. Some of the teachers in the school are former sponsored children of World Vision.

A local self-help group is giving women the tools to save their money, so they don’t have to go money lenders and pay back high interest loans.

Each woman gives $1USD a month to be saved in a bank and when any member needs the money it is given out as a low interest loan. The saved money is used for children’s education and medical treatments.

One member of Pristine’s community, Pani, received 200 chickens to help her family start a poultry farm.

Before the poultry farm the family was unable to make ends meet, but now things have changed. They don’t have to borrow from people any more and have a sustainable income.

"We are able to afford better food now. Thanks to World Vision we have a steady income," says Pani.

Pristine visits a local health centre. A government nurse comes here to give immunization for children and the centre helps spread awareness in the village about the importance of immunization. Now many mothers come here to ask the nurse for help and advice.

The pregnant women and lactating mothers are more empowered and now know how to keep their babies healthy. There are now no cases of malnourished babies in the community.

“I love them because the photo album has pictures of me and my father and siblings and the watch is a present from my father,” she says.
